Silver opium box – (5544)

Unadorned silver opium box. The round box has a paktong lining which is unusual for an opium box as mostly copper was used on the inside of opium boxes. The bottom is engraved with two characters ‘Lu zao’ (鲁造) which means ‘Made by Lu’. The box dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 4.6 cm. Width 4.9 cm. Depth 2.0 cm.
