Possibly an opium serving spoon – (4225)
[4225]

Small partly enameled silver spoon on a chain. The end has the appearance of a sword grip and is decorated with a flower, as well as a form which could be an upside down Butterfly (Blessings & Happiness) and a Ruyi-shape which symbolizes the ‘Granting of all wishes’. The interesting item has a heart-shaped spoon which has a black adhesion. Was this spoon perhaps used to scoop up a blob of opium from an opium box? This could be very well possible as opium is a sticky substance. The spoon dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 – 1912). Length 9.7 cm. Width spoon 1.4 cm. Thickness 0.1 cm.
