Hairpin with stalk of rice and unknown fruit – (7542)
[7542]

The decoration on this small silver hairpin in bent form is somewhat confusing. Depicted on one side is a stalk of rice (he) which is a homophone with Harmony (he). However on the other side is a fruit which don’t recognize. Is it a Pomegranate? The hairpin is marked Ri Long (日隆) who may have been the silversmith or the retailer and it dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 7.2 cm. Width 3.6 cm. Depth 0.9 cm.
