Three-pronged silver hairpin decorated with a jade disc flanked by two bats. A pair of bats (fu) is a pun ‘May you receive Double Blessings’ (shuangfu). A pair is ‘shuang’ and ‘fu’ means Blessings. Also depicted are two flowers which are perhaps an Osmanthus flower (guihua) and a Peach blossom (taohua) which together form the pun ‘May you have unlimited Honor and Longevity’ (guishou wuji). The heart of the peach blossom is formed by a seed pearl. The hairpin dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 11 cm. Width 2.9 cm.
