Silver hairpin decorated with a bat and two ‘Lingzhi’ Fungi. The combination of ‘Lingzhi’ and a bat (Fu) result is the pun ‘May your mind be clear when blessings arrive’ (fuzhi xinling). The fungus (lingzhi) is a rebus for ‘Intelligence’ (ling) and ‘Arrive’ (zhi) . The bat is a pun for ‘Blessings’ (fu). The hairpin is marked with the name Heng Chun Ju (恒春居) which may have been the silversmith or the retailer. It dates from the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). Length 8.7 cm. Width 1.8 cm.
