The Phurbu, Phur ba or Kila is a three-sided peg, or knife-like ritual implement traditionally associated with Indo-Tibetan Buddhism. It is a ritual implement as well as a tool of exorcism and can hold demons at bay. This miniature bronze one was definitely used to protect its wearer against evil and may have been worn on the chest. We believe that it dates from around 1900 but are not sure. The attached red cord is a recent addition. Length 4.6 cm. Width 0.9 cm.
