Boat under a willow tree – (2832)

Black lacquered whist marker decorated in reddish brown lacquer with a boat under a weeping willow. A flock of unusual shaped birds flies overhead. The keys are made of ivory inlaid with pieces of shell, mother-of-pearl and horn in the shape of insects and chicks. The marker was made in Japan and dates from the Meiji period (1868 – 1912). The workmanship is clearly less intricate than on some of the other counters. The whist marker came from Israel. Length 9.1 cm. Width 5.0 cm. Depth 1.1 cm.
