Bamboo bird cage decorated with carved panels depicting auspicious symbols such as Pine Trees (Longevity), Osmanthus flowers (Distinguished sons), Chrysanthemum flowers (Longevity), Cranes (Immortality and High Rank) and a Phoenix and a Dragon (Union of man and woman). A Dragon (Fertility) curls itself around the brass hook. Inside is a set of porcelain bird feeders which are embellished with poems. The bird cage dates from the late Qing period (1644 – 1912).
