Silver pendant in the shape of the ‘Laughing Buddha’ or Putai. He has a good and loving nature and is traditionally depicted as a fat-bellied bald man wearing a robe and playing with prayer beads. He is sitting on a Lotus-shaped base which symbolizes Continuous Harmony. Putai is poor but content and his image graces many Chinese temples, restaurants, amulets, and businesses. The pendant dates from the late Qing period (1644 – 1912). Height 3.9 cm. Width 3.2 cm. Depth 2.1 cm. Weight 18.9 grams.
