Silver pendant in the shape of Sun Wukong, the monkey king who stole the Peach of Immortality from the garden of Xi Wang Mu, the Queen Mother of the West. The monkey king is seen eating from a Peach which will give him Immortality. Monkeys (hou) and Peaches (shoutao) lead to the pun ‘Sacred monkey offers longevity’ (linghou xianshou). The pendant dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 4.5 cm. Width 2.4 cm. Depth 1.0 cm.
