Pair of silver pendants shaped as a baby Boys which seems to be walking. Only one boy has a small moving ‘willy’. These pendants were most probably a wedding gift. A depiction of baby boys implies a wish for many sons. In Chinese culture the absence of sons was a disaster. Wearing a small charm in the shape of a baby boy was supposed to ensure the arrival of a son. These simple lightweight figures date from the late Qing period (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Light weight silver. Length 3.9 cm. Width 1.6 cm. Depth 0.9 cm.
