Pair of apron hooks with boys in baskets – (9179)

Pair of silver embossed apron hooks shaped as Boys (Many sons) in Baskets (Longevity & Abundance). Each boy holds a box (Filled with good things) and we assume that these two boys are meant to symbolize the ‘Laughing Twins’ or ‘He He Erxian' who are the Gods of Peace and Harmony. Usually one of the twins holds a box while the other boy holds a lotus. Lotus flowers are shown in the back of the basket. On the basket is a depiction of a Butterfly (Blessings & Happiness). The hooks are marked Liu Kai Heng (劉开恒) who may have been the silversmith or retailer and date from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 5.4 cm. Width 3.5 cm. Depth 0.3 cm.
