Silver attachment hooks which were made from coins (Wealth). These hooks went into buttonholes at the top of an apron and were originally connected to a silver apron chain. Aprons started to be popular during the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1912) and they remained fashionable in the following centuries. The coins are from the Guangxu period (1875 – 1908) as they bear the text ‘Guang Xu Yuan Bao’. The edges of the coins were shaved off to make them smaller and more attractive. The hooks date from the end of the Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 3.3 cm. Diameter coin 2.3 cm.
