One side of this small silver lock is decorated with an elongated Shou Character (changjiao shou) which is a pun ‘May you have a very long life’ (changshou). It is flanked by the attributes of two of the Eight Immortals, Zhongli Quan (fan) and Li Tieguai (bottle gourd). The other side is decorated with three characters ‘Lu, Shao, Fu’ (Status, Long Life and Prosperity). Three small bells on chains are attached of which one is a melon or pumpkin (Many children). The lock has a faint illegible silver mark and dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Total height including bells 5.5 cm. Lock: Width 3.4 cm.
