Flat silver lock engraved on one side with a stylized flower which is most probably a Chrysanthemum (Longevity) but we are not certain. On the other side of the lock are four Chinese characters which form the expression ‘Chang Ming Fu Gui’ (长命富贵) which means Long Life and Prosperity and a Bat which symbolizes Blessings and Riches. Attached to the lock are three bells of which one is shaped like a Finger Citron (Blessings and Longevity). The lock is marked Xu Yong Shun (徐永顺) who may have been the silversmith or the retailer. It dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Width 6.4 cm. Height without bells 4.4 cm. Depth 0.1 cm.
