Small silver lock with a depiction of a person on the right raising a Flywhisk which is not only a symbol of Longevity but also useful to whisk away problems. There is a Pine tree (Longevity) on the right and another one on the left. The house is a symbol of Wealth and Power. The other side has the characters Fu, Shou, Lu (Prosperity, Longevity and High Rank) as well as two strange creatures which seem a crossbreed between a Butterfly and a Bat. A pair (shuang) of Bats (fu) symbolize ‘May you have double blessings’ (shuangfu). On the lower part is a depiction of a Peony flower. A pair of Butterflies (hudie) and a Peony (fuguihua) are a pun ‘May you have an accumulation of blessings, wealth and high social position’((fudie fugui). The lock is not marked but has some weight. It dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Width 4.2 cm. Height 3.2 cm. Depth 1.9 cm. Weight 22.5 grams.
