Square silver pendant decorated on both sides with texts. According to the person who sold this pendant and two similar ones to us, this is definitely a lock. We have not yet been able to find a comparable piece so we accept his belief. The lock originates in Fujian and has the following text on one side ‘Zenren Xunshou’. Zenren means ‘real people’ and ‘Xunshou’ means ‘hunters’. On the same side is the name of the original owner ‘Xufu Daitian’. Xufu means ‘Xu family’ and Daitian was the original owners first name. On the other side are the characters 'Fu Zu Guanyin', the Goddess of Mercy. The lock is marked Yu Zhen (玉珍) who may have been the silversmith or retailer and Zheng Wen Yin (正纹银) which probably means Pure silver. It has a small dent on one side and dates from the late Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912) and is of a heavy quality. Width 3.5 cm. Height 3.0 cm. Depth 0.85 cm. Weight 25.5 grams.
