Very large embossed ‘coin’ silver hat ornament in the shape of Putai wearing a traditional monk’s cap embellished with a flower. He is sitting on a lotus flower, symbol of ‘Continuous Harmony’. Putai or the ‘Laughing Buddha’ has a good and loving nature and is traditionally depicted as a fat-bellied bald man wearing a robe and playing with prayer beads. This ornament dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Dimensions without wooden stand: Height 6.5 cm. Width 4.9 cm. Depth 2.3 cm. Weight 17.3 grams.
