[7452]

Amusing gilt silver hat ornament which depicts one of the Eight Immortals. The Immortal Li Tieguai has his ‘trademark’, a bottle gourd, in his hand. Each Immortal can be identified by the attribute which he is holding (see Quick Find 7883). Li Tieguai looks very much like a clown with his eye-catching collar but he is clearly an Immortal as testified by the fact that he is standing on clouds. The ornament dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 4.9 cm. Width 2.2 cm. Depth 1.7 cm.
