A set of ten very small silver hat ornaments in the shape of Putai. Putai or the ‘Laughing Buddha’ has a good and loving nature and is traditionally depicted as a fat-bellied bald man wearing a robe and playing with prayer beads. These very small items are individually marked with the name He Tong Sheng (合同昇) who may have been the silversmith or retailer. Apparently He Tong Sheng was specialized in making Putai-ornaments as we have another set of three (6591) in our collection which are also marked with his name. The hat ornaments date from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 2.1 cm. Width 1.7 cm. Depth 1.1 cm.
