God of Longevity Shou Lao and a Shou-symbol – (6485)

Silver hat ornament depicting the God of Longevity, Shou Lao, seated on clouds. Clouds not only refer to a Deity or an Immortal but also symbolize the ‘Granting of all Wishes’. Shou Lao has a Shou character (again Longevity) on his belly. The ornament is marked on the back Tian Bao Cheng (天寳成) which may have been the silversmith or retailer. It dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) or Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 5.2 cm. Width 3.4 cm. Depth 3.2 cm.
