Silver hat ornament shaped as a Butterfly (Blessings & Joy). Also depicted are Plum flowers with their five petals which symbolize the Five Blessings, Old age, Health, Wealth, Love of virtue and a Peaceful death. Furthermore there are bamboo leaves visible which represent Humility, Fidelity as well as Peace and two fruits or flowers which we cannot identify. Four chains carry bells and a rooster dangles from the fifth one. A rooster is a symbol of High rank because its head crest (jiguan) is a pun for ‘Official’ (guan). The ornament is marked Yuan Gen (原艮) and dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Total height 15 cm. Width 7.5 cm.
