The ‘Five Boys’ theme was quite popular during the Qing Dynasty. Depicted on this gilt silver hat emblem are the five sons of Dou Yujun, who during the Period of the Five Dynasties (907 – 960), was a scholar and official. His five sons were very successful during the Civil Service Examinations and became high officials. Therefore their depiction symbolizes the wish to achieve a high position. The emblem dates from the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). Width 6.8 cm. Height 6.2 cm. Depth 2.5 cm.
