Gilt silver hat ornament in the shape of a small crab on a large lotus leaf. The crab symbolizes Harmony just like the lotus leaf. The lotus flower represents Marriage in addition to Purity. The hat ornament was originally attached to the back of a hat. Four little bells in the shape of Peaches (Longevity) and Pomegranates (Many children) are dangling from fine chains. The ornament dates from the late Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). Height including chains 9.6 cm. Width 5.1 cm.
