Pair of very small gilt silver hairpins decorated with circular Shou symbols inlaid with Kingfisher feathers and an Osmanthus flower (Distinguished sons) in the centre. Circular Shou characters are a pun ‘May you have Longevity as well as Completeness (yuanman). The circular shape (yuan) means ‘Fulfillment’ or ‘Completeness’. The hairpins date from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 4 cm. Width 2.4 cm.
