Silver diadem embossed with different auspicious symbols. We recognize the following objects. A Lozenge which is one of the Eight Treasures, a Parasol belonging to the Eight symbols of Buddhism and a Lotus, Basket, Fan and Fly Whisk which belong to four of the Eight Immortals. We don’t know if there is any connection between all these symbols but they are certainly Auspicious. In the centre of the diadem is a round Shou character (tuanshou) which means ‘May you obtain Longevity and Completeness’ (yuanman). The circular shape (yuan) means ‘Completeness’. The weight of this diadem is light but the workmanship is nice. It dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 10.5 cm. Width 11 cm. Height 2.5 cm.
