Silver spoon-shaped hairpin which is decorated in detail with two butterflies hovering over some unknown plant. Butterflies symbolize Blessings & Happiness. We guess that the leaves have a meaning as well. Are they Bamboo leaves (Humility & Fidelity)? The middle part of the hairpin is engraved with lotus flowers (Continuous Harmony). The hairpin has a two character mark Chen Xing (辰兴) which is presumably the name of the silversmith but might also be the retailer. The hairpin dates from the end of the Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 10.7 cm. Width 2.1 cm.
