Extremely fine silver charm chain which used to dangle from a long hairpin. It is more than likely that the objects attached to this charm chain were once adorned with the bright blue feathers of the Kingfisher bird but these are gone. Depicted are a Basket (Longevity & Abundance) and a Mantle Clock which is very unusual. Chinese people do not present clocks as gifts because to give a clock (zongzhong) is a pun for ‘Seeing off a dying person’ (songzhong). Therefore a clock is a very inauspicious gift. The charm chain dates from the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). Length ca 15.5 cm. VERY RARE.
