Silver hairpin decorated with two facing butterflies (hudie) which is a pun for a Happy Meeting (xi xiangfeng). This refers to the union between husband and wife. Two butterflies symbolize a Happy Marriage. They embrace the character ‘Shou’ which means ‘Long Life’. The hairpin is marked Sheng Fu Chang (盛福昌) and dates from the end of the Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 7.3 cm. Width 1 cm.
