An ear scoop and a toothpick are hidden in this silver implement and slide out when needed. It is decorated with bamboo (Humility and Fidelity) as well as with lotus (Harmony), plum (Five Blessings see 0171) and other unidentified flowers. On one of the slides is a depiction of the letter āEā which was most probably added as a fashion statement of that time. The chain to which the item is attached is decorated with stylized flowers. The toothpick is hallmarked and dates from around 1900. Total length including chain 28 cm. Length of the toothpick when closed 6.4 cm.
