Pair of silver bracelets decorated with squirrels and grapes which symbolize a wish for many sons and were most probably given as a wedding present. Squirrels have great reproductive power and grapes grow in large clusters which explains their popularity. The well-made bracelets are hinged and have safety chains. They were made at the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912) or early Republic Period (1912 – 1947) and are hallmarked with the name of the silversmith ‘De Mao’ (德茂). Inside diameter 5.6 cm. Width 1.3 cm. Weight for the two 52 grams.
