Silver needle case on a chain. The case is shaped as a Vase which represents Peace. The vase is decorated with a Lotus flower (Continuous Harmony) on one side and a Peony flower (Wealth & Honor) on the other. Also depicted on the neck of the vase are Butterflies (Blessings & Happiness) and the shoulders of the vase are decorated with Lion masks. The chain is attached to the tubular needle holder inside. Dangling down from the vase are two small bells in the shape of Plum flowers. The five petals of the Plum flower symbolize the Five Blessings, Old age, Health, Wealth, Love of Virtue and a Peaceful death. The needle case dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Total length including hook 21.5.cm. Vase length 5.3 cm. Width 1.9 cm. Depth 1.8 cm.
