Wooden shoebox which was used to store a man’s boots. The elegant and light box is made of thin planks which are curved. Two brass bands keep the structure together. A handle at each side makes lifting easy. The lid on the top can be removed to allow easy access. The box which has been cleaned and re-varnished, dates from the Qing period (1644 – 1912). The lid has nail impressions in the lacquer where our dog tried to open it with his paws. These are not visible on the photos. Length 38 cm. Width 29 cm. Height 25.5 cm. Rare item.
