Silver apron chain and attachment buttons for which the silversmith used silver coins with a weight of 7.2 ‘candareens’. A candareen (fen - 分) is approximately 0.374 grams. The coins were struck at the end of the 19th century during the Guangxu period (1875 – 1908) in Hubei Province. Aprons started to be popular during the Ming Dynasty and they remained fashionable in the centuries thereafter. The chain dates from the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). Chain: Length 50 cm. Coins: Diameter 1.8 cm. Depth 0.15 cm. Total weight 55 grams.
