Dark brown lacquered leather hatbox with a flat lid. Hats were normally placed on a hat stand (see Quick Find 9463) as soon as the official came home and these boxes were only used if longer storage was required. The height of this box makes us believe that it was only meant for the storage of one hat. It dates from the late Qing period (1644 – 1912). Height 22 cm. Diameter 36 cm. Excellent condition.
