Silk ladies’ purse decorated with lucky symbols such as an orchid (Fertility, Abundance), lotus flowers (Purity, Perfection), a lingzhi fungus (Longevity), a butterfly (Happy Marriage), a flower pot (Beauty and Harmony), a chime (Auspicious Happiness), a rock (Permanence) and a bird which looks like a parrot. The embroidery of this purse is done in extremely fine ‘Peking stitch’ and gold thread. It dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 – 1912). Height 14 cm. Width 8.5 cm.
