Small bamboo pipe surmounted by a dog – (8183)

Small bamboo pipe with a paktong (see QF 1465) bowl and a jade mouth piece. The pipe is surmounted by a buffalo horn ornament in the shape of a dog with his paws on a ball. Inscribed are the characters ‘yong xiang qian’ which mean ’Look ahead forever’ (never look back). The pipe dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 15 cm.
