Silver-plated opium serving dish with a garden scene – (2361)

Round silver-plated opium serving dish engraved with a lady and a gentlemen in a garden symbolizing a Harmonious Marriage. They both have a fan in their hands which represents Longevity. The materials from which the body of this silver-plated dish is made are Paktong (see QF 1465) and copper. To prevent the opium from sticking to the serving dish, copper was used to form the hollow receptacle. The dish dates from the end of the Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 3.1 cm. Diameter 2.1 cm. Weight 19 grams.
