Small porcelain jar nicely decorated in blue and white with two boys playing on a raft formed by a tree trunk. One boy tries to light a firecracker on the front of the raft while the other presses his hands against his ears while waiting for the bang. Boys lighting firecrackers (baozhu) are a pun ‘May there be peace year after year' (suisui ping’an). The noise caused by exploding firecrackers is believed to chase away evil spirits. A butterfly in the sky symbolizes Blessings and Happiness. Two Dragonflies (qing ting) are a pun for Celebrations (qing). The jar dates from around 1820 during the beginning of the Daoguang period (1820 – 1850). The wooden lid and the stand are later additions. Height without stand 9.1 cm. Diameter 8.1 cm.
