Vase in the shape of an ancient bronze – (8588)
[8588]

Modern porcelain vase in the shape of an ancient bronze ‘arrow’ vase. The shape and the color of the vase, lilac grey, make it special. Arrow vases were considered important objects by the Chinese upper classes. They were used for the drinking game ‘Touhu’. Participants tried to throw arrows into the tubular cylinders attached to the neck of the vase. This vase adapts the shape of the arrow vase but was likely not used for games. The vase was acquired in Hong Kong in 1990 and dates from the last quarter of the 20th century. It is unmarked. Height 32 cm. Width 21 cm. Depth 16 cm.
