Gilt bronze statue of the White Jambhala, the God of Wealth. There are five different wealth Jambhala, each with his own practice and mantra to help eliminate poverty and create financial stability. ‘Jam’ (Dzam) means ‘Deity’. ‘Bha’ (Bhah) means ‘Gold’ or ‘Wealth’ and ‘La’ means ‘to honor’. The White Jambhala is the compassionate manifestation of the Bodhisattva Chenrezig, known in China as Guanyin, Goddess of Mercy. He can remove the suffering of poverty and sickness, and avert disaster and sickness. Usually he sits on a snow lion. Depictions of him sitting on a dragon such as this are much rarer. Much of the gilding of this statue has disappeared over time. Traces of red pigment are still visible. We believe that the statue dates from the 18th century. Length 5.2 cm. Height 2.6 cm. Depth 1.8 cm. Weight 60 grams.
